My name is Ashley Davis. I am an illustrator who specializes in cute things! Read below to see a few of my projects:
Jailbird: An online comic following the adventures of a young lady who is discovering her world for the first time. Coming 2012.
NOMARIOS: A blog where I draw video game characters who get drawn less frequently than others. Updates weekdays (kinda).
Hey Ash, Whatcha Playing?: A video series about a sister and brother and videogames. I am not the titular Ashley. New episodes every other week!
Once Upon a Pixel: A video series that mashes up video game stories and characters into things like kaiju films, tv sitcoms and fairy tales. On hiatus as of 2011.
Odd Bird Shop: It's a shop! Where you can buy some things!
I’ve been drawing Jailbird for over half a decade now, trying to pinpoint exactly how I wanted her to look. And I finally got it over Christmas break! I’ve been sick this week, so just to make sure I was entirely happy with it, I doodled nothing but her while laid up in bed. I still like it! Yay!
Oh, there’s some Duck in there too, but he didn’t change much. I just needed to give him an easier mouth to draw from the front because BEAKS ARE HARD. I will probably do a page of expressions for him later!
My goal is to get the webcomic up in a month or two! Though I did lose a lot of time while travelling/sick and there’s still a lot of work to be done, so we’ll see… it’ll be this year for sure though! Woo!
I got to do this piece of fan art for game developer Robot Invader in December! A dozen prints were distributed to the team to celebrate their Android (and now iOS!) game, Wind-Up Knight, hitting a million downloads!
It is my sincere wish that everyone draw a dumb-running Sonic
sonic dont give a FUCK bout stop signs
duuururrrrrrr
hai im Sonek i run to da coyns

Go 4 da hot dog
I drew an Alex Kidd that you can wear!
Meat Bun, one of the coolest gaming apparel companies out there, approached me a while back about making a shirt for their new Cute ‘Em Up line! And now you or that special someone who loves obscure game characters can own this NOMARIOS x Meat Bun creation. It’s available in both black and red!
I can’t go without mentioning the other amazing shirts in this line: a Paul Robertson rendition of Smash TV, a crossection of a less popular Dragon Quest enemy by Zac Gorman, a hot lady bathing in Porings by Kinuko, an adorable value meal by Mitch Loidolt, and a classic Mr. Needlemouse. They’re all here: http://meatbun.us/store/
Rebloggin’ in case you don’t follow nomarios and want some of this action!
Meat Bun’s new “Cute ‘em Up” t-shirt line, featuring shirts by artists including Mariel Cartwright, Zac Gorman, Paul Robertson, and Ashley Davis, each in multiple color schemes. I’d love to meet the person brave enough to rock that Slime shirt! I know the person brave enough to rock pretty much all the other ones (meeeee).
These shirts are being sold only through Giant Robot (update: for now, anyway.) MB’s Mike McWhertor said they’ll be on the Meat Bun site too, so you’ll be able to choose your web shop.

Here’s something cool I got to do recently alongside some of the coolest people!!
Hi there! So, this is my setup:
It is the cheapest standing desk ever. It is literally three tables stacked on top of one another. I would not recommend this method unless you’re really adaptable because there are a lot of problems with it (like the top table leg being in the way sometimes!)…
But I love it! I have lost a bit of weight that was put on just by sitting all day! I feel more energized to work! And it’s way better for my back. But you have to make sure to stretch and sit down from time to time. I have a bar stool, but it’s an uncomfortable stand-in for the drafting chair I’m going to invest in one of these days. You might also need something soft to stand on. Lots of people swear by yoga mats, but I haven’t tried one yet.
As for the desk itself, you can elevate your current one with sturdy boxes. Others use wall shelves, cupboards or storage racks! There are actual standing desks that you can buy, but they’re pretty expensive. Just measure the height you need your stuff to be at and you can go from there! On my desk, my Cintiq is about up to my chest and the top monitor is level with my face.
I’m nowhere near an expert on this, I’m still experimenting myself, but I hope that I am of some help to you! And thank you! :>

My magazine, The Controller, has a mini-cameo in a really funny episode of Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’? Watch! Cool!
(You can buy the magazine here… if you want!)

Zelda Zine 1 (by cory schmitz)
Zelda Zine for GameCity6 in Nottingham. Consists entirely of fan submitted art, design, illustration, and literature.
Volume 1 of 3.
Yeah! Here’s the Zelda Zine I contributed to! Not sure what volume my art is in, but all three will be amazing. These will be available online at some point!
Hi! I drew the art for the Shipster Sale they had a while back! http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Fangamer/Merchazawa/Shipster-Sale-Free-Shipping-and-a-Coupon
Otherwise, no… FOR NOW. :D
Drew this Minish Cap scene for Cory Schmitz’s ZeldaZine! I was a dumbyhead and made it color when the zine is B&W so here’s the color version for you, internet!
It is Ashley Davis (@aedavis)’s Birthday. Ashley Davis is an incredibly talented artist lady, as well as the nicest person alive. She’s my best Animal Crossing buddy! So for her birthday, I wanted to make her a little chiptune thing. It’s the “8 PM” song from Animal Crossing for the Gamecube. It’s not much and I didn’t have enough time to flesh it out as I would have liked, but I hope she likes it!
Happy Birthday Ashley Davis~
Ben is the best BEN IS THE BEST
Drew the heroes of Dragon Quest 1-3 beating up on the Dragonlord for a friend’s birthday gift. :> Happy birthday, Naia!
Retro Game Challenge 1 and 2 characters, drawn by Ashley Davis. Ashley went on a GCCX character spree last week on her fanart blog No Marios Allowed, but we were both indisposed at the time — Eric busting his ass on TGS news, me busting my ass at TGS.
So enjoy these images now — like you have a choice to do anything but enjoy them! Look at that Arino! Look at that Wiz-Man! If I were in charge of an American release of Retro Game Challenge 2 (and to be clear, I’m not, and neither is anyone else) I’d have already hired Ashley for the box art.

This is just some of what I’m up to over at nomarios!
Name: Ashley Davis
Tumblr Name: oddlookingbird, which is my “company” name I suppose? It still seems pretty silly to think of it in that way. It’s what I’ve labeled my work with since high school.
Nickname: Davis, Blavis
Birthday: October 7th, 1985
Age: 25
Location: Texas
Current school/job: HIRE ME PLEASE
Status: Married
Random fact about you: I was born without a right nostril. The doctor cut out the extra skin right then and there, but I still have a small bump left over.
Hobbies/Interests: Illustration, cartoons, comics, videogames, puppets, and the making of them all! I also like studying pop culture via old TV programming and commercials, ornithology, biking, trying foreign candies, monsters, frozen yogurt with M&Ms in it, competitive Mario Kart time trials, and generally being awkward.
Do you smoke/drink: No/only if it tastes good (so mostly no).
Why Tumblr?: I had a Livejournal long ago, and haven’t really had a place for me since. Tumblr is a pretty different experience, especially when it comes to sense of community, but I do like how much easier it is for me to share my work here. I can’t remember how I found out about Tumblr, though…
I’ve been thinking about it! But I would have to upgrade my RAM first so my computer could handle it… and that might not be for a while.
But I’ll be sure to say something if I ever get that going!
EDIT: I use Corel Painter, draw in HUGE resolutions and only have 2GB RAM :< it’s not the worst setup, but it chugged the one time I tried to stream myself playing games, so I can only assume streaming drawing would go similarly.
Ashley Davis drew me as my spirit Pokémon on the cardboard protecting the prints I ordered from her! Click through to buy a print of one of her no marios allowed! drawings!
p.s. the prints are gorgeous you should buy some/all/as many as you can afford of them!
This is the best Snorlax ever drawn.
Ashley has such a fuckin’ WAY with characters and composition <3
Sorry I do nothing but reblog lately, but it’s okay ‘cause I’m basically the source right? Right!
So when you order stuff from my store, I pack it up in cardboard. Then I draw a little something extra on it! Fun!!
Ashley Blavis drew this for my one year anniversary with David and it is so great.
They’re on one of the fishmen from Wind Waker! This was so fun to draw!
Hey gang! We’re putting up two shirts for pre-order this week! The “Pizza TriPie” and a collaborative effort with artist Ashley Davis we call “Rad Bull”. These shirts are available for pre-order now through next Friday! Super stoked on these shirts, they’re vibrant, loud, and crisp! Support independent artists and independent clothing!
Keep bombin’!
Excited!! Pick one (or two!) up!!
I did the art of the shirt on the left for Nope Clothing! It’s a videogame parody of the Red Bull logo. As the post above says, you can preorder it or the Pizza Triforce now!
